Tony Lopez

CIT Trainer and Practitioner, Retired Police Captain

Tony Lopez has over 27 years of law enforcement experience including as an instructor for Crisis Intervention Training, Peer Support, Hostage Negotiation, and Interactive Video Simulation Training. Tony has a Masters Degree in Emergency Management, a Bachelors in Sociology and is a graduate of the West Point Leadership program.

After retiring as a Police Captain, Tony began a consultant role for a county mental health department as a Law Enforcement Liaison and trainer in De-escalation and Crisis Intervention. He has continued in this role for over 8 years. Tony teaches at Crisis Intervention Training programs in several counties and at law enforcement academies.

Tony has been a presenter as subject matter expert before legislative, advisory, advocate and other groups. He has been a presenter at the California and National CIT annual conferences. He was named a CIT Officer of the Year in 2015 and a 2016 Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Board Community Hero.
